About 10 years ago, legendary soprano Martina Arroyo began her eponymous foundation’s Prelude to Performance, an intensive summer program for young artists that presents fully-staged operas. This week, Young Artists Showcase features a preview of its upcoming productions of Puccini’s La Bohème and Strauss’s Die Fledermaus.

Nine Martina Arroyo Foundation singers joined Bob Sherman in the studio to perform arias and ensemble numbers. Ms. Arroyo also spoke about Prelude to Performance’s audition process and training, which guides singers through the process of creating and inhabiting a role. Full performances of these operas will take place July 7 though 10 at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College.
