Gig Alert: Renée Fleming @ Alice Tully Hall, 8PM, $80
Soprano Renée Fleming is one of the brightest stars in the opera world. Composer Kevin Puts won a Pulitzer Prize for his opera Silent Night, about the Christmas truce during World War I. The two are also alumni of the Eastman School of Music, and now they’re teaming up with the Eastman Philharmonia to premiere a set of songs based on the letters of the great American painter Georgia O’Keeffe. The new work, a 23-minute opera, is called “Letters From Georgia” and will be played tonight onstage at Alice Tully Hall, along with works by Prokofiev and Ravel.
