Tune in at 1 pm Saturday to hear Verdi's Otello from the Metropolitan Opera on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. The Bartlett Sher production, which premiered earlier this season, returns for a second run this spring.
Notable for eliminating the use of blackface for the title role, this production stars tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko as the Moor who is tormented by his sense of otherness. Baritone Željko Lučić portrays Iago, who preys upon Otello's fragile psyche. Soprano Hibla Gerzmava makes her Met role debut as Desdemona, Otello's innocent but unfortunate wife. Adam Fischer conducts the performance.
